Free Physical Distancing Resources for businesses in the Norwich BID area
Yesterday we have placed an order for a quantity of packs of physical distancing resources, in order to provide these free to any business in the BID area who needs them.
Since the government released their update on the 11th of May, we know some of you will be working hard to get physical distancing measures in place ahead of June 1. For others, we understand that the 1st of June is too soon to open. But we do know that – for all of us, and if only for the time being – the way we trade is going to be different.
So, Norwich BID in partnership with the City Council, have produced a pack of assets that will allow businesses to put some physical distancing measures in place, in order to open as safely as possible to the public again. In particular, the free assets will go some way to helping shops and leisure businesses manage queues outside their frontages.
The pack includes:
- 3 external floor arrows
- 3 external footprint markers
- An ‘Opening Safely’ checklist
- Information and Guidance on how to install floor graphics safely
- Way In and Way Out posters
- Directional ‘This way please’ arrows
- 2-metre distancing notice
- Card payments preferred notice
- Customer number management notice (left blank for you to fill in)
For the majority of shops and businesses in the city centre, we know that putting physical distancing measures in place is going to be a huge task. And a task that none of us expected to have to do.
Although these changes are only temporary, for now they’re crucial in order to keep the public and your employees safe. Norwich BID wants to do as much as we can to help businesses navigate these changes as a community, and to open their doors with confidence.
The Business Packs will be available for businesses to collect – contact free – from the old Maplin store on Castle Meadow. There is a limited number of packs, and they will be distributed on a first come first served basis on these dates:
- Saturday May 30: 9am – 12pm
- Monday June 1: 9am – 12pm
- Tuesday June 2: 9am – 12pm
- Wednesday June 3: 9am – 12pm
- Thursday June 4: 9am – 12pm
- Friday June 5: 9am - 12pm
The address for collection is: 7a Castle House, Castle Meadow, Norwich, NR1 3BY
You can download the additional signage available here.
Lastly, I wanted to make you aware that – in partnership with the Council, Environment Agency and the Police – we are working on ways we can safely manage pedestrian traffic in the city centre, certainly in some of the narrower parts. There is a delicate balance to be struck between ensuring Norwich’s streets are still welcoming to everyone who wants to visit, and keeping people safe while Covid-19 is still a danger to vulnerable people in our community. We are currently reviewing a number of street measures for the city and although no decisions have been made yet, we will provide guidance as soon as we have the details.
As we emerge from lockdown – some before others – things will be different, but working together we can provide a safe city that people can return to with confidence. In the meantime, please do get in touch if you feel we could support you in other ways.
The Norwich BID team.
