Not only do we make Norwich thrive, we make the city streets sparkle and twinkle with the annual Christmas lights.
Our investment makes Christmas in Norwich a spectacular must-see event especially as we’re home to the UK’s first Tunnel of Light.
Funded and developed solely by Norwich BID, The Tunnel of Light launched in 2016 takes centre stage in the Christmas festivities. Comprised of 50,000 LED’s that reflect the patterns and colours of the Northern Lights, the awe-inspiring 45-metre-long tunnel, situated on Hay Hill opposite The Forum, is the ideal place for seasonal selfies. Each year it attracts thousands of visitors helping boost city centre footfall. A social media star in its own right, the Tunnel of Light received over 12million mentions in 2018 and was the most viewed BBC online news story receiving over 3million views within 24 hours.
Our investment also sees the city bathe in a glow of seasonal twinkling lights and new for 2019 look out for stunning wrapped trees. From Gentleman’s Walk to London Street, through Davey Place and the Norwich Lanes to Prince of Wales Road and Westlegate the city centre shimmers and shines as it attracts Christmas shoppers from far and wide.
Christmases past have seen us add to the Christmas magic by transforming Norwich’s iconic Castle with stunning 21-metre projections.
We are working with Norwich Castle Museum to hopefully see the return of the projection in 2020 following £30million Castle Keep refurbishment.
