Bringing festive light and spark to the city.
Norwich BID brings the city alight for Christmas. We've invested in Norwich's festive season, with the Tunnel of Light, wrap-around lights on the city's trees, and the Castle Projections. We also support the city via VisitNorwich, creating festive campaigns to drive tourism and encourage locals to take advantage of all the city has to offer.
The Tunnel of Light: a UK First
Funded and developed solely by Norwich BID, The Tunnel of Light takes centre stage in the Christmas festivities. Launched in 2016, when it was the UK's first tunnel of light, this ever-changing immersive experience is comprised of 50,000 LEDs. The awe-inspiring 45-metre-long tunnel is situated on Hay Hill opposite The Forum and is the ideal place for seasonal selfies.
Each year it attracts thousands of visitors helping boost city centre footfall. A social media star in its own right, the Tunnel of Light received over 12million mentions in 2018 and was the most viewed BBC online news story receiving over 3million views within 24 hours.
Christmas Tree Lights
What's better than one Christmas tree? A whole city of them. In 2019 we invested in new seasonal twinkling lights, which wrap around the city's trees. From Gentleman’s Walk to London Street, through Davey Place and the Norwich Lanes to Prince of Wales Road and Westlegate, the trees glisten in an elegant festive display.
Christmas Castle Projections
The Castle Projections create a stunning city centre attraction, using a projector to transform Norwich's iconic Castle. Over the past years, we have created beautiful festive projections, covering the 21metre face of the castle, and providing a free Christmas experience in the city centre.
In 2020, two new bespoke short films were created for the castle, supported by Norfolk County Council, via the Experience project. Watch the 12 Days of Christmas below.
