Norwich Street Aid

Norwich Street Aid works to reduce rough sleeping in Norwich, and help those who need it most. Set up in partnership with Norfolk Community Foundation and Pathways (including St Martin’s Housing Trust and The Feed) Norwich Street Aid works collaboratively to raise and distribute funds.

Norwich Street Aid was created by Norwich BID in response to the business community’s concerns for the number of people rough sleeping on the city’s streets. Data released by the Government in 2018 showed that the number of rough sleepers in England had increased by 165% in 8 years.

Norwich Street Aid raises funds that can be applied for directly by keyworkers on behalf of those who need it. These funds can be used so the individual can acquire what they need the most, such as a mobile phone, clothing, household items, or to reconnect with family members.

Donations can be made via a physical tap-to-pay donation terminal located in Castle Quarter. We’re also inviting businesses to host the donation terminal for a short period of time, so if your business is interested, or if you’d like to direct donations to Street Aid as part of your charitable work, please contact nick.smith@norwichbid.co.uk

If you are working with Pathways Norwich, or any services or support groups that are supporting rough sleepers or homeless people, you can apply for funding via streetaidnorwich@thefeed.org.uk If you have a specific need, please speak to your key worker to submit an application on your behalf.

From Norwich Street Aid’s launch in October 2019, to September 2023, £17,000 has been raised through the generosity of Norwich’s businesses and the general public. Funds so far have mostly been used to provide household items for those who have been assigned accommodation, such as pots and pans, mattresses, washing machine, radios, and carpets, amongst other things.

The funding has also been used to purchase mobile phones, making it much easier to keep in contact with anyone rough sleeping, especially when it comes to notifying them that a bed for the night has become available.
