Good Night Norwich

Good Night Norwich is a campaign developed by Norwich BID to support our city’s Evening and Night-time Economy (ENTE) and promote safer nights out in Norwich.

Since the pandemic, Norwich’s night life has looked different, both for you as businesses, and for your customers. Ensuring the safety of ENTE users has become a key priority. Funded by Safer Streets and in partnership with Norwich City Council, this campaign has been created to encourage use of Norwich’s night-time economy in a fun and safe way.

Our industry toolkit is now available for your business. We have varied and flexible ways for you to get involved to help us create a cohesive city-wide campaign. With clear and consistent messaging, our resources are easy to engage with. Don’t dismiss night safety.

The campaign so far…

>>> Extensive research

The foundational messaging of this campaign has come directly from meetings and discussions with key stakeholders in the NTE, as well as the Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls forum. The designs were then surveyed with students and under 25s, with over 90% of them enthusiastically supporting our campaign strategy.

Many of you provided crucial feedback as part of this process, for which we are very grateful. Our partners include the University of East Anglia, Norwich University of the Arts, City College, nightclub operators, Norfolk Constabulary, SOS Bus, and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

>>> The campaign out and about

With such a positive response to the campaign, we took to the streets of Norwich to get our design out in the public eye. Our brightly coloured vinyl is now visible at the top of Prince of Wales Road, a location that is a popular part of Norwich Nightlife. These posters are displayed in the windows of a previously vacant store front, adding vibrancy and life to an important Norwich street.

>>> UEA Welcome Week

This September, we took part in the UEA Welcome Week to promote a safe night out in Norwich. We were directly engaging with the student population to showcase the city’s exciting night scene, as well as highlighting the need to be safe when consuming alcohol. Students make up a large portion of the NTE, so we were glad to be able to speak to so many of them.

Our game of ‘Beer Pong with a twist’ was a huge hit with the students! Instead of using beer, the players would put on ‘drunk goggles’ to simulate the experience of being drunk, and then attempt to throw table tennis balls into plastic cups: harder than it sounds! Prizes for the game included portable phone chargers and bottle opener key rings which point to the campaign website, full of information to help keep safe on a night out.

Many students commented on how useful the website is, and said they were glad to have safety information like this easily accessible. We put the campaign in front of over 500 students: more than 400 key rings and 120 chargers were handed out throughout the day, reminding students to keep interacting with the campaign messaging.

We also spoke to several venue holders who were presenting alongside us: they were all very enthusiastic about the campaign. They expressed an interest in partnering with us and displaying the campaign messaging in their premises going forward.

Overall, the event confirmed how successful this campaign is, with students and venues alike excited about what we are bringing to Norwich’s ENTE.

How can you get involved?

>>> Industry toolkit

We have a great industry toolkit available to you to help promote the campaign and get the message out about how to stay safe on a night out. The resources can be used both in your premises and for online campaigns.

Our designs can be downloaded and used for social media, as tiles and story graphics, perfect for Instagram and Facebook. These are available here.

Posters are available as digital files to print, ideal for the back of toilet doors, by the bar, or wherever you think they’ll be most visible and accessible. We also have campaign beer mats that can be used in your premises. They are the perfect take-away resource for customers to keep the information at-hand.
